Principal Message

Vishwasrao Naik Arts, Commerce and Baba Naik Mahavidyalaya, Shirala has been established by late Vasantrao Naik (Baba), the former member of legislature of Maharashtra. The college was established with the motto ‘Ahrnisha Sevamahe’ as Vishwasrao Naik Mahavidyalaya, Shirala in 1970. At present, our Sanstha P.P. Swami Vivekanand Sevashram Sanstha Shirala is running two senior, five junior colleges, five high schools, one Primary school and three hostels in different parts of Shirala Tahasil of Sangli District. The existing president of our Sanstha Hon. Adv. Bhagatsing Naik (Nana) and the present secretary Hon. Vishwapratapsing Naik (Dada) are developing our Sanstha, since its establishment successfully. The members of management, the former principals, the teaching and non-teaching staff and other members related to the Sanstha and college have been playing pivotal role in the overall development of college.

In 1998, Hon. President, Adv. Bhagatsing Naik with the great efforts, established another senior college having the streams Arts and Science. Hon. President and acting Principal, Dr. U.S. Patil took extra efforts to regularize this college with 100 % grant. Later on, the college was shifted to Shirala from Kokrud to fulfil the needs of rural area learners  looking for Science faculty in Shirala Tahasil. The college is regularized by avoiding different problems like-affiliation, economical problems, salary problem, etc.

Presently, the college is well developed with different facilities. It has availed UGC grants for the Women’s Hostel, IQAC cell and other facilities. Women’s hostel has been built for the education of poor and needy girl students of the rural area of Shirala Tahasil. The centre of YCMOU is in function to cater the education to the people who are unable to attend the college regularly on their own. Besides, the college is well equipped with other facilities like- sufficient playground, Wi-Fi facility, Ladies room, Library with number of rare books, Xeroxing facility, gymnasium, computer lab. E-journals and other qualitative measures.

Our college has been accredited with ‘B’ grade by NAAC in the second cycle of accreditation and assessment. The college has changed immensely in every aspect. In the third cycle of accreditation, we are approaching positively to all criterions of evaluation and assessment. The preparation of assessment in the third cycle is on the top level. Everybody concerning to college is expecting and aspiring good gradation.

The department IQAC has been established in the year 2005. It is in function to look into matters of sustaining quality in the areas such as teaching-learning, research, cultural activities, sports, minor and major research activities, papers presentation and publication by the faculty and students. The different stakeholders are in touch with IQAC and it receives the suggestions for every year to make qualitative changes accordingly.

The magazine of the college is a pivotal aspect that shows the publications and creative writings of the students. Students publish their articles on the different topics with the help of teachers. The yearly edition of ‘Vasant-Deep’ contains many such articles and writings on different topics which invoke readers positively towards many of their decisions. The teaching faculty of the college involve in research activities. So far, they have participated in various seminars, conferences, along with papers of highly importance. They have published their papers in many reputed journals with high impact factor.

The library department is an active to provide the facilities to the students and teachers. It has been trying to be complete computerized and availing maximum e-sources for the benefit of teachers and students free of charge. The department of sports under the able guidance of Prof Vaibhav Gaikwad, physical director, has paved the right path by participating in various sport activities. The students have participated in many national, state-level, zonal games.

The college caters various skills under the policy of COCs and Lead college activities. The courses like Spoken English, Guidance for Competitive examinations, Soil and Water analysis, Vermicopost, Computer Course, Mehandi Design etc. have helped our learners to find their career in time. So far, many of our learners have shined with their success in different fields. Our learners have achieved the well reputed posts in the fields like politics, management, industries, teaching, C.A., scientists, govt. servants (I.A.S.), the presidents of various Sansthas, secretaries etc. We are sure that in future, number of learners will shine brightly in the world of competition and they will publish their own names and name of college as expected.
