The Param Pujya Swami Vivekanand Sevashram Sanstha,established on 12-09-1956,is the most reputed sanstha of Shirala Taluka.The sanstha started Vishwasrao Naik Mahavidyalaya in 1970.The college completed its twenty five years in the year 1995 and celebrated Silver Jubilee in October,1996. As the management and the faculty members have worked with a conviction that the process of education must be kept dynamic and relevant to the present context, the college endeavored to lay emphasis on three areas.
In the first seven years, the management granted concession in the fees of the boys and girls for the weaker sections. The salary of teaching and non- teaching staff was paid by the management from the E.B.C. grants received from the Zilla Parishad,Sangli.
The Sanstha always appoints meritorious candidates. Such meritorious candidates are given a number of facilities for the academic development. Many teachers who are in service have received M.Phil and Ph.D. Degrees.
The College has a highly competent teaching faculty. There are staff members who are ex-students of this college. They are on the fore-front of social, cultural and literary activities of this region. They contribute by way of propagation of scientific outlook, humanity, quality, scientific knowledge and environmental awareness through lectures; exhibitions, article-writing, radio talks etc. They are also involved in carrying out projects related to regional issues in collaboration with several NGOs, Non-NGOs and National Organization such as the U.G.C., New Delhi.
The faculty and students of the college render their services voluntarily at the time of calamities such as earthquake, floods, draughts etc. Every year, in the first week of October the College organizes activities like lectures, slide-show, poster exhibitions, etc. on the effects and control of AIDS for the student as well as community as a part of AIDS awareness programme.
The library is the centre of all academic activities. The library of the college contains more than 30,000 books, articles, magazines, bulletins, news-papers as it is essential to the library facilities. The management is going to equip library with the latest technologies. The library is also planning to have a separate building. The U.G.C. has sanctioned Rs.5,50,000 under the 10th Plan.
Audio Visual aids and reprographic facilities helped to top up the level of academic standards. The Information and Technology facilities in the college made an influential impact on the quality of teaching and research.
Eminent writers, poets, social workers, stage performers political leaders, administrative officers, thinkers have visited our college from time to time as guests on different occasions.
