Department of Microbiology
1) About:-
The Department of Microbiology was started in the academic year 2009-10. The department is home to a community of dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students; both involved in creating an innovative approach in the teaching-learning process and research in life sciences.
The faculty has immense and diverse interests, ranging from Environmental Microbiology, Biochemistry and Enzymology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Food Microbiology, Prebiotics, and Probiotics.......the list is un-ending! The department is dedicated to education through principle subject Microbiology at the undergraduate level and the various courses are vermicompost, soil analysis Skill development courses Government of Maharashtra providing opportunities for students to further join postgraduate and higher studies in practically all branches of life sciences.
Research is also actively promoted through research projects funded by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur under lead college activity e.g.GJR. Students are actively participated in AVISHKAR, a state level project competition for students, organized by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Students of Microbiology department had successfully received Scholarships from various Nongovernment bodies like Malhotra Weikfield Foundation, Pune, Sitaram Jindal Foundation Bengaluru and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Lt., Mumbai. Students of the department have participated in and won prizes at State, Intercollegiate and local level competitions.
The department of Microbiology organized various student centric activities like seminars, workshops, guest lectures, study tour, on-site training, quiz, Microtoons, and Model competition, food adulteration program, Lipid, Thyroid, Blood group, Hb detection camp and Microfest: 2024. The department therefore attracts a large number of students for its UG courses looking at the vast scope of the subject.
